Lighthouse Youth & Family Services was established in 1969. Lighthouse’s mission is to empower
young people and families to succeed through a continuum of care that promotes healing and
growth. Lighthouse offers a variety of services for youth and families which include, but are not
limited to, those involving foster care and adoption, shelter and housing, mental health,
juvenile justice, and education.
The Economics Center examined the economic impact and community benefits generated by
Lighthouse from FY2012 to FY2019. Youth and society received a wide variety of benefits from
Lighthouse’s programs and services, including avoided costs in the healthcare, foster care,
and criminal justice systems, as well as avoided lifetime productivity loss. While these benefits
can be monetized, youth also received benefits that were not able to be monetized, such as
improved quality of life and mental well-being.
