Mercy Health, the largest healthcare system in Ohio, operates six regional healthcare networks throughout Ohio. While providing excellent medical care to these communities, Mercy Health also provides benefits through their uncompensated care and wellness initiatives. The operations and capital expenditures of the regional networks provide employment opportunities to the local workforces. They also generate tax revenues through sales, income, property, and other tax obligations.
We measured the economic impact of expenditures for the State of Ohio in addition to each of the six local economies where Mercy Health operates. State and local tax revenues were calculated for each tax component, which constitute the fiscal impacts. The total impacts of the healthcare system represent the economic impact – measured in output, jobs, and earnings – and the fiscal impact on the regional communities and Ohio.
